FUSED DEPOSITION MODELING: REAL PRODUCTION THERMOPLASTICS
With an armada of Stratasys FORTUS equipment, we are uniquely qualified to produce your prototypes and production components in our ISO 9001 rated manufacturing facility with our Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) process.
Using real engineering grade thermoplastics, our Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) process extrudes ABS plastic layer by layer, in a variety of thicknesses as fine as .005 per layer. Known for its robustness, FDM produces accurate prototypes and end-use parts with exceptional tensile strength, flexibility, high melt points, UV resistance, and more. Furthermore, our arsenal of Fortus 900’s boast an incredibly large build chamber of 36 x 24 x 36 for rapid creation of large models.
With incredible mechanical properties, these high performance parts are can be drilled, tapped, and threaded and won’t shrink or warp over time. FDM parts are also perfect for rapid manufacturing applications and serve as master patters for our ProCAST RTV Urethane Casting process for higher volume applications.
For the ultimate in aesthetics and function, we operate our Finishing Touch Smoothing Station for vapor honing of FDM parts that are 15 times smoother, producing more aesthetically pleasing parts, with minimal post processing.

|Standard Lead Time||2-4 days|
|Standard Accuracy||typically within +/- a single build layer thickness for the first inch and +/- .002” for every inch thereafter.|
|Layer Thickness||.005 - .007 - .010 - .013 - .020 depending upon material|
|Minimum Feature Size||Varies with material and extrude nozzle size used, generally .030" is a good rule of thumb|
|Minimum Wall Thickness||Varies with material and extrude nozzle size used, generally .040" is a good rule of thumb|
|Finishes||FDM parts can be painted, impregnated, sanded, smoothed / vapor honed (ABS & ASA ONLY) we define our available finishes in three strata: Engineering, Engineering Plus, Forecast Quality|
